That's because in the 80s there weren't enough games that we needed so many genres, but there are hundreds of games released a year, and genres are divided by rules for a reason. So, we now call games where you follow a story and talk to characters an Adventure, and games with a stat increase system an RPG. Works pretty well. Let's not try and kill the current genre system please. Thanks.
