The news that emerged yesterday that Sony will let Microsoft make the first move ( http://n4g.com/news/1158634/ps4-sony-will-let-microsoft-make-first-move ) confirms my hypothesis in the OP that the Playstation 3 is doing too well for Sony to simply rush an underpowered PS4 that is basically only two PS3s taped together and only a step up from Wii U ( as many have predicted with all their talk about PS4 only being a moderately powered console) to the market.
