What "help" Nintendo this gen was the Wii being a SD console, who knows how expensive Nintendo games will be now that they have a HD console in their hands.

I doubt NSMBU and Nintendo Land cost much more to develop than typical Wii games. Nintendo knows how to get the most bang for their buck visually.

Isn't cel-shading cheaper than "realistic"?

Hell if I know, I'm no graphic designer. But I expect the more detail you put into the graphics, the more time you spend drawing them, the more it'll cost you. So the key is making things look great with less detail, or finding an easy way to make things look more detailed while keeping them rather simple -- like using better textures instead of rendering every single object in 3D.
