What is the definition of hardcore games?!

I think self proclaimed hardcore gamers are snobs, who scoff at the thought that anybody might be playing a different game to what they like. TBH it doesnt matter what game each individual plays, be it COD, Mario, or a game that is perceived to be "shovelware". If they are having fun does it really matter???
