The simple fact of the matter is that the game isn't as good as Smash Bros in really any facet. Thee mechanics are more limited, the single player experience is anemic, the amount of unlockables is lacking, the music is uninspired, the roster is smaller and less appealing etc. The one area the game is better than Smash is the online, and that's only because the PS3 has better online in general, and not because of anything the developers did in particular.
PSASBR is what Smash was before Nintendo realized they had an AAA title on their hand and gave the game the time, attention, and budget it deserved. It's an average fighting game, that is made somewhat below average by a surprisingly slapdash online mode, and it's selling as you'd expect of that kind of title.
