The only time I ever used a summon in FF8 was the very first time I player the game over a decade ago. In the couple times I played the game thereafter, I never used a summon. Ever.
Also, you're wrong. GFs don't make battles faster. In the time it takes to use one GF summon, I'd literally be in my second random encounter battle.
