Nintendo tried to use the Wii name to move consoles, and some people don't even know wht WiiU is. Ninty killed the Wii and is now paying the price for killing a console that wasn't ready to die.
i think PS3's comeback shows, the brand is still strong. all Sony has to do is release PS4 the same time as Xbox, or latter with PS biggest ip, and we will see the match in the 8th gen. we should have seen in the 7th gen.
i expect PS4 to pull away from NB easily, and early, with the gap being 10m, pending on many factors, that we know nothing of.
NB is hard to place right now. will it still have the 3rd party selling power 360 had and will it matter? didn't matter this gen. with PS3 on 360's ass, and sales blurring very thin lines, with what was once, more then 4m or more units in software lead, became 1-2 by this gen.'s end. MS continuing to buy more studios, they'll better be able to compete, but does that equate to a difference in sales, i'm not so sure, but it's a wait and see process.
