I work in retail and people ask me all the time "what's the best game on so-and-so system" and I ask them what they like and try to recommend something good in that genre, so yes I influence people in my store often. I don't give my opinion if no one asks for it though, and I don't move things around in the store cause I'd be required to move them back to where they're supposed to be.
