With a 7670 and a 6670(even worse!) you looking at a slight step up from current gen...think along the lines of WiiU.

WiiU is definitely stronger than current gen, and i believe we will see the difference in a year or two maybe less. But its not going to be a massive difference....and its certainly gonna be at 720p.

Given sonys recent ambitions they made public...the specs do not aline.

Sony's only ambition now, is making profits anywhere they can. Those specs seem to be in line with that.

As far as i know the console industry is still using the same business model. Release desirable consoles that cost a premium to make, sell it at a loss then get profits from the software. This has not changed.

Why on earth would they build a console that's pretty much an old, low end PC which nobody would even recommend for gaming? Turkish was right...laptops are more powerful than this. This will be the most extreme thing sony would do, and they would need some crazy gimmick (akin to the wiimote) to spur on sales. They would be almost entirely relying on the casual market.

By releasing a significantly underpowered console...sony will be at odds with the major developers who have more ambitious plans, they will also alienate their core market and audience who are expecting atleast a modest increase in power and the expectations in games that come with it.

Unless theres more to the story here it wouldnt make sense to release consoles on par with the wiiU (which most people do not distinguish from current gen even though it is more powerful). Nintendo is okay with this though as they have invested heavily in there tablet like experience...using the same strat they used with the wii or atleast trying to do so.

Now dont get me wrong, im not saying sony will put a HD8970 in there console (thats impossible) but they wont go the other extreme either and put something low end like this in there.

But then again we also dont know the specs of the APU...but if its an A-8 theres only so much room for GCN cores...which again is why this rumour doesnt make sense.

No,  the industry knows that this will be a shorter console generation.  Maybe only 4 years, so they need a profit early.
