I read somewhere Japan isn't going to bother with 4k as it's too soon and will wait for 8k which is at least another 5 years away from becoming mainstream. 720/1080 is fine for now especially for TV and film watching. Higher resolutions only really benefit games and only then if the textures are up to scratch.
