Also, as for why English is the common world wide language. I'd blame it more on the UK. They made sure a large wide population spoke it quite well.
English will likely never not be the world language because of this. (at least not for a couple centuries out at least.)
English speaking is just too diversely spread and Chinese influence will more or less be countered by Indian influence.
