This chart seems alittle of. I can see the difference between 720p and 480p on a 24 inch display from a 3 meter distance easily. Even 1080p is still noticeable but a very sublime difference.
4k will soon be the standard resolution on PC, and TVs will catch up automatically. I don't think its an option for you or other consumers not to buy 4k Tvs. Unless you plan on never buying a TV again after 2020. The manufacturers just notified us what they are going to do in the next years.
