It really picks up as soon as Sanderson is onboard! I've been thining about picking up Malazhan for a while now! In short; what's it all about? :p |
Malazan changes characters pratically every book so it's hard to tell what's about. It's mostly a gritty high magic world, with gods and the like messing around. The overall plot of the first books ressemble a lot Glen Cook's Black Company, just like the first WoT books copy Lord of the Rings.
Basically at first you have platoon of soldiers under the shadow of a large empire, some gritty rebels and extremely powerful magical forces at large playing their own games. You don't get much on character development and their names are horrible, by the way (Whiskeyjack, Croaker, Sorry, Kruppe... I mean, what the hell? Glen Cook does the same but there's a metaphysical reason within their books for that) so you don't get much emotionally attached when they die by the lot, but if you are looking for epic, Malazan's just as epic as it gets.
