There's a good video series called Watch It Played that does a good job of explaining it. I played a few games without watching that first and I was doing quite a few things wrong. Unfortunately it has one of those rule books that doesn't explain things too well and it's super easy to miss things (and I know it wasn't just me because everyone else I know made the same mistakes too 
).
