I'm actually in need for a new laptop but can't find one that interests me. Tablets are appealing but don't offer a keyboard which I'm in need of. So a hybrid is what I'm looking for but they're too expensive :(

Most tablets offer cases that include keyboards.

As for the thread, honestly I understand why tablets are taking over. For the vast majority of people tablets offer everything somone would need. Desktops do work related things better. Obviously there will always be some people that need laptops, but again most people don't fully utilize them, and might as well own a nice tablet instead.

I honestly think it depends on the market Laptops/tablets are being sold to ...

In business I see people showing off new tablets on a weekly basis but I see a table full of laptops at meetings, in classrooms (both grade school and post secondary) I'm told that the vast majority of students use laptops on a day to day basis, but in the home I think tablets are taking over for people who just want to check email or browse the internet in any room they're in.

When people have real work to do a tablet is simply not good enough. This is why I like the concept of Microsoft's surface, and I'm so frustrated that it is a steaming pile of crap.
