A marriage between two people with the same sexual orientation is unnecessary. The reason a man and woman get married to settle down with one another and start a family. It's the whole purpose of the human race. We need to have babies, otherwise we all die out in less than a hundred years. |
I'm trying not to get involved in this discussion but I really need to point something out here: marriage has never been purely about proceation. Neither has the act of sex been purely about procreation.
I am unsure how "in depth" I am allowed to get about it, but simply put, human sex is designed as a way to strengthen social bonds between individuals, in addition to procreation.
Marriage has pretty commonly been used as a political tool to unite different groups. Its been used by women and men to raise their social status, to marry into other, richer families, to unite different monarchies and countries. In fact, marriage was pretty commonly used as a political tool by European monarchies as late as the 19th century, which is why there was a lot of inbreeding going. You can read all about it here:

To say that that has ALWAYS been the single purpose of marriage is just...wrong. I mean, menopausal women and people who are incapable of having children for one reason oranother have been getting married for pretty much as long as marriage has been around.
And while I support the idea of polygamy/polyandry marriage, to compare it to homosexual marriage is silly. People are born homosexual. They aren't born polygamists. It isn't a lifestyle, its who they are. And America is only going to grow more accepting of this over the next decade.
