The gamer, game developer, publisher, console manufacturer and investor all have very different perspectives because they want different things from the gaming industry; and even within these groups there are different perspectives based on the different desires of different "individuals". A core gamer may want something different than a mainstream gamer, a big name developer wants something different than a mid-sized or small developer, EA may want something different than Majesco, Nintendo wants something different than Sony, and a short term trader wants something different than a buy and hold investor.

When a system is doing as bad as the PS-Vita (or worse) it is fair to say that it is probably not meeting the needs of the vast majority of people across all groups of stakeholders and therefore some "doom" articles are justified; but for most other systems that is not the case. In most cases there are fare more people who are directly involved with the system that are happy with the performance (technical/sales) than are unhappy with the performance, and they tend to see it as a success. The gamer who is upset that the Wii U doesn't produce "next generation" graphics is balanced out by the gamer who likes the Wii U tablet and is happy with the affordable price, the game developer who wants to push high end technology is balanced out by the developer who wants to keep development costs reasonable, the publisher who wants to target "hardcore" gamers is balanced out by the publisher looking to target a broader market, and the investor looking to make a quick buck off of the hype surrounding a sold out console is balanced out by the long term investor who is looking for reliable growth.
