Drugs are simply a means to a desired effect. They are a shortcut for the similar natural euphoria we can experience through accomplishment, attraction, friendship and physical exertion. Whether they are ok to do or not is a very personal moral view and can be an extremely situational thing. Your post seems to imply drugs are bad. I am guessing you mean illegal drugs.

Are sweets and fatty foods ok in your opinion? They hurt your body and can be addictive. What about video games or sex? People lie, cheat and steal for video games and sex. Is neglecting your responsibilities as a person for video games better than doing the same for drugs? What about using a tanning bed or taking diet pills? Some people can control these things the same way some people can casually drink, smoke pot or experiment with harder things.

Drugs by themselves are not bad. Society has decided to ban them and give them a negative stigma because many people cannot handle them. As you grow up you realize there are way more functional drug/alcohol users than you ever expected as a child. The bottom line is all the things mentioned above are vices. Vices offer instant gratification in exchange for some form of detriment. That detriment could be time, money, health or something else. No one should be able to make that choice for an individual, especially the government. Our laws are in place to try and prevent a society of zombies that just get high all day.

My question for the OP is why do you think they are inherently bad? Before you answer realize you most likely game an "unhealthy" amount and neglect things for gaming. Not saying drugs are great, just hoping to make people think =)
