That's exactly the reason why Fear is a bad example to judge the PS3. Atari ST ports to the Amiga were often slightly inferior to the original, it took developers years to truly tap into the Amiga custom chips to demonstrate how great the gap was between the cheaper Atari ST and more expensive Amiga with regard to gaming. I owned an Atari ST initially but the Amiga was clearly a more powerful gaming and operating system solution.
The reason why I own a PS3 today is because of the Cell processor, to make use of this innovative technology game engines need to be redesigned to tap into this power, something you will mostly see done for PS3 exclusives. This won't take years like was the case for the Amiga which was also years ahead for its time.
