Billions of YouTube views have migrated to Vevo pages, following rumours that the video platform had cut the numbers due to hacking claims.

Before Christmas, Universal Music, Sony BMG and RCA Records appeared to lose around one billion views each after YouTube carried out a routine view count adjustment.

However, the company also recently decided to remove view counts for videos that are no longer live on the channel, a move which accounted for the majority of the lost views.

Universal and Sony have since moved the high-profile videos that once lived separately on the Universal and Sony YouTube channels to Vevo.
