No it's not a table OS its a portable device optimized OS, which includes laptops. Windows 8 runs much snappier on lower/mid range laptops than windows 7 did and app store, better battery consumption are always welcome.
Desktop users (or people that are frustrated with change) may have legit reasons to crucify windows 8 if it didn't take a whole 2 minutes to install Classic shell which adds a start button, boot to desktop and allows you to use windows 8 just like windows 7. But even desktop users who are open minded and are willing to pick up some new accessories like a touchscreen monitor or a Logitech T650 touchpad can enjoy Windows 8 over Windows 7.
