Actually, there are two weeks left of the VGChartz sales year I think from the numbers in the OP. PS3 being 20% down would still hint at ~10m+ next year. I'm just wondering how you got the 9.4m number for PS3 as being 20% down? It's already at 12m with a week (maybe two, depending on how they decide to count the yearly sales) left and you think it will only sell 11.75m this year? :O Same goes for 360. It's already at almost 11m yet you're predicting 10.4m for the full 2012 year :O

The total HW overall is wrong, however, the total for the year is right.  If you subtract the total overall HW from Dec 15th from the total at the beginning of the year you get 10,519,903 for the PS3.  Add in last weeks numbers and you get 11,289,348.  There's also only one more week data for '12 (I believe the 30th and 31st will be rolled into '13's data), so the PS3 may just miss 12M.

Oh, and LOL at Metallicube's 360/PS3 prediction.

Xbox 360 - 9,000,000

PS3 - 8,000,000

Now that's some blind love right there.

And what's so crazy about that prediction? The fact that I have 360 over PS3? I'm just going by recent trends, and if this site is to be believed, 360 has in fact outsold PS3 in something like 8 out of the past 10 weeks, so it's very possible. 360 currently dominates in America, even moreso when a new Call of Duty game is cranked out. And then there is the power of Gears Judgement.. Obviously it is a non entity in Japan but that hasn't been a problem for it before, as the market there is much smaller. I also don't forsee PS3 sales holding up so nicely in Europe and Japan like they have been.

Granted it probably won't outdo it by a whole million units next year in retrospect, but I'll stick to my guns.. Hell, whats the fun in making these predictions if there aren't a couple crazy ones in there. Just makes me look that much smarter when I'm proven right. :P

The problem is it's pratically impossible for the 360 to outsell the PS3 this year.  The holidays, thanks to the 360's main support being from America, is the only shot it has at making up any ground the PS3 has put between the two.  The 360 may have outsold the PS3 for a few weeks in '12, but it barely cut into the 1.5M+ gap the PS3 had at the beginning of the holidays.  The PS3 will still be ahead of the 360 by 1.3M-1.4M when all the data is in.  Next year will be no different.  Well, unles MS starts selling the 360 for $50 a pop.
