Honestly, after reading about it, I have a lot more respect for people who go through it. It's not something to be taken lightly because of the ramifications of either beginning it or going through it. Don't associate that with a physical attraction. It simply means because it's a one-way street, I have respect for those people who decide they need to go that route.
My guess is the Thai "ladyboys" are forced into doing it either for the income or as a part of the sex trade. Not sure if porn stars get into it for the money or they get into porn for the money for future operations. I think there are probably a significant number of effeminate gay men that feel that physical female attributes would be desirable. But the majority of people who sincerely go through it are men who gender identify with women. It doesn't mean they're gay, it means they psychologically and emotionally feel like women.
I grew up in a small town, we had a woman that was a transsexual, and a bit weird (a potential side effect). For years she had been the joke of the town, but honestly, I have a lot of respect for her. Not only for going through it during a time when less was understood about human hormones, but for going through it. I'm not offended by it like I once was, and I was once sincerely offended by it.
