It's quite pathetic when someone uses the fact that a particular animal engages in some activity to somehow justify human activity. Of course that's just happening indirectly here; He's actually trying to indicate some truth about the animals consciousness (or lack thereof) by his behaviour.
Clearly this topic hasn't been pondered before.
A little thought will reveal that a baby is consciouss, yet has almost zero ability to discriminate between the proper and improper consequences of his actions. We conclude that all consciouss beings aren't required to act on the same principles. Therefore the fact that the shark is hardwired to be a killing maching does most certainly not indicate a lack of consciousness.
You see, the shark sees.
You hear, the shark hears.
You smell, sharks smell.
You taste, sharks taste.
You feel, sharks feel.
You think, the shark thinks.
Now you want to exclude self-perception from the shark!? YOU DAMN FOOL.
