I'm pretty sure he's lying, but I can tell you someone that bought a PS3 at launch and didn't like it. Me.

OT: PSN+ is the best value subscription in gaming right now. I might consider getting it for my two Vitas.

The PS3 at launch is very different from the PS3 now though.

I agree that PS3 launch is nothing like PS3 now when you talk about quality first party games and PSN+. But when you drop nearly $1,000 on system at launch and it doesn't live up you feel betray and taken advantage of. I'm still bitter about it till this day. Main reason why I might not ever pick up a PS4.
