Personally, I don't think anyone can speak on what the OP "should have done." How would you react if a burger/object was thrown at you? Calmly? Yeah, right. Let's not be p/c here.
Message to OP: Hey, I'm sure millions of others would have done the same thing in your situation. You don't have to take abuse, but remember that person could have been psycho.
