I have a feeling the next generation of consoles will be MUCH cheaper. It's a shot in the dark, but if the Cell Chipset and multi-thread programming takes off, couldn't Sony just theoretically "double-up" on their current CPU? Hell like I said, it could be a shot in the dark, but could you imagine if the next Nintendo and MS consoles used Cell's :P

I agree with your main point of the next consoles most likley being cheaper, but in theory, they could still cost a good sum of cash. It just all depends on how much new stuff the companies want to throw at them. Sony proved this gen that no one wants a $600 (primary sku) system. However, they also somehow managed to prove that a good number of people don't mind paying for a $500 (primary sku) system. Still, I think it will be a $400 ceiling on all next gen consoles.

Also, and this has been sorta noted by various people too, but a 10 year plan (by sony) most likely doesn't mean that the ps4 will come 10 years after the ps3. It's most likely a 6-8 year plan with the ps3 as their primary focus and a slow burn for the remaining years (much like what is going on with the ps2). Hence my 2013 ps4 prediction.
