Back in high school when I did track, I saw this underclass man kid whose mom forced him to be a vegan, I felt really sorry for him because we were both distance runners but he was never able to keep up with the rest of the team and was pretty much a stick figure for a couple of years until I graduated, I went back to visit teachers and friends when I went home from college and that shit did not improve. He was really very weak compared to the kids who had more balanced and healthy diets that didn't require supplements. My conclusion so far is that not everybody can be a vegan, it might work out for some people but not others and definitely not that kid. You won't be healthy by just being a vegan, you need to pay attention to how your body reacts to different foods. I can never be a vegan because I have a natural slim build, and if I don't eat meat, my muscles will go away no matter how much supplement I take in.
As far as animal cruelty goes, I personally don't like it, but they are properties, they are not free if they are owned, and I doubt we'll see a cow holding a cow gun to shoot at people any time soon.
