On PC vs. Console ...

Because they don't have licensing fees and are sold through digitial distribution at a higher rate than console games, PC games generally make far more money per unit sold than console games; but because there are so many more console owners, more games are sold for consoles resulting in more profit being generated from console games.

With how the HD consoles struggled early on, publishers started to ensure that the PC got a version of most games to (try to) recover as much of the high development costs as possible; and this has continued because the sales from PC games result in more money than the cost to produce these versions of games. Unfortunately, people aren't buying high-end gaming rigs as much as they used to, and if Sony or Microsoft produce a bleeding edge system I'm not sure if the PC could provide enough sales of these games to get similar support.
