MS owes no more of their success to the mistakes of Sony than Sony owes their PS1/2 success to the mistakes of Sega and Nintendo. Clearly launching later and at $500/600 hurt Sony and helped MS but this is always the case. Unless consoles launch on the same day at the same price with the same games and the same specs you'll always have companies who succeed somewhere based on something the competition does not do well.

And what strategy did MS have this gen that will somehow only work for this gen? That is just terrible logic. Not to mention it ignores the fact that MS has been a business for decades and knows how to adapt. Bringing up replacement sales is lulz too because if MS really has replacement units to thank for a bulk of their sales then that makes the 360's software numbers even more impressive. Furthermore PS3 has its own reliability issues as well.
