Sony (on the whole) has been in decline since the late 1990s, and in the last decade they have been falling behind their competition in most of their markets. Although they have had some success, a large portion of what has been successful with Sony is the result of a massive brand name and conditions that were established before Sony began their decline; and you can only lean on your brand for so long before it crumbles, and many of the conditions that existed have also steadily degraded.
