Half the price brings down profit but does increase Win 8 chances to capture market share by double.. The more the Win 8 is adopted..the sooner their marketplace becomes succcessful as developers will come to their platform. So in long run Apple profits will come tumbling down.
And Win8 is pushing hardware..The OEMs are exeriencing shortages.

iPad mini is also less profitable than the iPad .. so profit is also down for Apple then.
And Apple is not ridiculously profitable
Apple Q3 profits : $8.8 billions ---- Microsoft Q3 profits : $6.37 billions
