Well yes, because it's HALF THE PRICE. So profit is down assuming Win8 cost the same to develop. It's still not pushing hardware. Consumers are not jumping to buy Win8 PCs, or PCs in general because of WinPhone/WinRT.

Yes, Apple is still ridiculously profitable. I don't view stock moves like that as very important. 

Half the price brings down profit but does increase Win 8 chances to capture market share by double.. The more the Win 8 is adopted..the sooner their marketplace becomes succcessful as developers will come to their platform. So in long run Apple profits will come tumbling down.

And Win8 is pushing hardware..The OEMs are exeriencing shortages.

iPad mini is also less profitable than the iPad .. so profit is also down for Apple then.

And Apple is not ridiculously profitable 

Apple Q3 profits : $8.8 billions  ---- Microsoft Q3 profits : $6.37 billions
