what you guys are not seeing is that all of microsoft's efforts to gain japan support paid off in the US. For almost 3 years the 360 was seen as the definitive rpg console with a mixed of west and Japanese rpgs. Lost Odyssey, The Last remnant, blue dragon, infinity discovery, and more that i cant remember now, came on the beginning of the console cycle and helped 360 turn some ps2 rpg fans. Xbox fans like to think that halo, and gears are the reason xbox is popular in the west, far from it. It was the huge selection of games that made possible.
If microsoft completely ignores Japan, it will hurt them in the west a lot more than in the Japan. It's true, I think they will not move the needle in japan, but i think that is a cost they have to pay to not loose the ground they have gained in the west this gen. Don't underestimate the power of the JRPG :p.
