I agree. That's why it's not a legit GOTY candidate IMO. The polish is just not up to standards set by most AAA games. The cutscenes, one of the most important aspects of the game, are very choppy at times. And don't even get me started on the lip syncing...
But anyway. I choose Carley because she was good with guns. Based on how many times she saved my ass, I'd take her over that nerd Doug any day of the week :D
