Lots of phones don't have expandable memory... especially the smaller form factor phones.
And in today's world of cloud storage, exactly what are you doing that requires so much storage space? About once every two months, I flush my localy stored cloud items and then get back to work. It's a non-issue and I regularly have 100-200 comic books (20-40 megs apiece) on my devices.
With that said, Apple's price-gouging on additional storage sizes is laughable. I don't know why anyone would buy into it.
