Are you sure about Brazil? The latest research made by GFK here... April 2012. - 31% of Brasilians have at least one console (60 milllion) http://www.kotaku.com.br/o-que-dizem-as-pesquisas-sobre-o-mercado-de-games-no-brasil/
So in any moment the research showed the 360 is over PS3 here... the PS2 is the king in sales, after that PS3 and then 360... but the research says that the 360 is coming close to the PS3 after it became to be manufactured here... the price helps that R$1399 for PS3 and R$799 for 360... almost twice expensive. The pirated market helps the 360 too because it have easy unlock. That's what I know here... in resume the Playstation is way more strong here than Xbox. And people question where the PS2 is selling yet... I can bet over 50% of these 935k units were PS2... so near 500k PS2 sold here in Brazil last year. Now I have to wait the next research early 2013. |
What can I say, Ethomaz is: no way. (about the PS2 sales)
PS2 is the best selling console of all time in Brazil (I have no doubt about this, it surpassad the legendary SNES hehe), but at this time of the generation I`m sure it isn`t the most sold here, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii (yes, the dead system) sell a lot more than the PS2.
I know how the Playstation brand is strong here, but I think this information is not a fact.
And at this rate, I dare say that Xbox 360 are dominating Brazil sales with PS3 in second with a good distance. That is what I noticed when I went to the stores.Well, I visited shopping centers of a lot of big cities in the last year, like Manaus, Porto Velho, Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Florianópolis, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba. The problem is, in this places the consumers tend to be more rich, so I know, i'm not a good source.
BTW, I'm really surprised how strong is Nintendo in Florianópolis, I think there Nintendo seems to be the market leader yet (and just there).
About the handhelds, seems to be a niche market here, with only 3DS seems to be doing decent numbers (DS are selling in a lot of places too, I almost not see PSP and Vita stock in the stores are really small, and I think is not because it sell well).
I wish I could do this with all store, but I only managed to do with Americanas and FNAC, so look at this data, this shows the best consoles and games at those stores.
Americanas: the 3 most sold between games and consoles are Xbox 360 (the system)!
http://www.americanas.com.br/loja/226762/games?abas.selected=3
FNAC: http://www.fnac.com.br/games.html
Look at the best sellers: Halo 4, Xbox 360 (console) and Black Ops 2 (for Xbox 360) are the 3 best sales there.
And one more thing.
60 million people in Brazil have at least one console? What planet do we leave? I`m sure this data don`t are from CENSO. Or is an estimative (really wrong) or the people who answer this count the consoles of all the family like their (4 people in one house, they have 1 console, and for the data each one have 1 console - so the truth 1 console, but for data 4, just an example).
60 million consoles...
If you compare what sell per year in Brazil. The numbers seem even more absurd.
Come on!
Well, if the market is growing and we have video games here since 1975 (just a random data, but not far from reality, after all, who had video game before this date was king around here), so we have 37 years of video game in Brazil, if the sales are 700 thousands per year (which is ridiculous, far from reality), we arrive at 25.9 million consoles sold in Brazil today. So, 60 millions is a total bullshit.
Não me leve a mal, Ethomaz.
