I expect PS4 to be announced early in the year at some Playstation Meeting in Japan. Release date will be December in Japan next year with early 2014 everywhere else. They can't let Nintendo dominate the portable and console market in Japan.....

I know they've done that with both portables but why would they avoid BF and Cyber Monday if the console is ready?

If it's possible then launch worlwide in holiday 2013...that would be great!
But if look at how they launched the Vita, this is what I'm going by. A PS4 would be much more difficult to build so I doubt they could pull off a worldwide launch within a few weeks.(I'm surprise Nintendo pulled it off TBH)

I don't know I feel like they would almost have to release in the US earlier if they could only make enough for one region (Japan doesn't really get a spike during Christmas).  If you're going to launch somewhere in 2013 it HAS to be the US given how far behind they fell this gen.  It's the one region they haven't been able to turn around.

yeah I agree that would be the best option, but why did Sony release the Vita in Japan first despite it having like no Japanese games? There has to be some reason to that.....

yeah they've done that with both portables if I'm not mistaken.  I don't get it and I don't get how they could miss the holidays by mere weeks and the millions of install base it would bring in.  I feel like if it and xbox launch at the same time they will be in a deadheat even if people want xbox more.  My logic there is that xbox may sell out first, but there are always supply shortages so then parents will buy PS4 considering their kid probably just wants COD or something that is on both.  They won't pay $1000 for an xbox online before they get a PS4 for $400 so they would almost certainly both sell out.

I'm still calling it, but Call of Duty will stay on PS360.  They ay port it to the new consoles but they will still be for current hardware as well so it wont be a system seller until a few years.

I agree just like COD2 and COD3 were on old and new alike.  There will be a lot of simultaneous releases for both.  I also think we'll see upscaled Skyrim and Battlefield for Xbox3/PS4, but we'll still see sell out demand for the systems considering they'll be the first next-gen systems that are noticably more powerful than the PS360.  If they release at the same time I don't think either will pull ahead because they can only manufacture so many in that period and systems usually sell out.   If they're the same price we could see a dead heat in America after Christmas 2013 which would be a huge change from this gen.  Also WiiU sales could suffer if two systems launch to suck up potential sales.

I don't know, I think it is really dangerous releasing two consoles so close to each other.   I personally don't think both of them will be releasing in 2013 but if they do hopefully they can stay a few months a part instead of launching the same month.  If they do they will hurt each other including themselves.  If they release with a decent difference then both should sell out fine as long as they both have a good launch game. The problem is Sony doesn't have a big American title besides Uncharted.  From the rumors sony is relying on established sequels too and I personally think that is a bad idea.  The beginning of the gen is when you want to grow new franchises.  Whatever Santa monica is working on hopefully itll make it at launch because Sony needs an american title.
