What does the word "flop" mean?

I underlined it but yes games that are genereally bad will be considered a flop as well if they were expected to be good.

Wait, what are you quoting here?  A dictionary or a thesaurus?  If the latter, then those aren't necessarily words or phrases with the exact same meaning.

A flop can be an absolute, as in a finacial flop that loses money, or it can be subjective, as in a critical flop.  In the subjective state it has to be overwhelming reaction.  If it's subjective to your opinion, then that needs to be clearly defined, such as, "I think the newest Mario game is bland and boring; from a quality standpoint, a real flop."  If you mean it that way, then the burden is on you to illustrate that it's your opinion and not an absolute conclusion.

I believe people use the word flop far too often.  Flop connotates an extreme failure.  Many people on the forums seem to hold everything to a false dichotomy without any grey area; it's either successful or a flop.  "Not as successful as they hoped" is not a flop, for instance, it's just "not as successful as they hoped."

No not talking about my opinion, I'm talking about a general opinion.  Things like metacritic.  1 person not liking is hardly evidence lol
