If they have a great machine with amazing features and a really good line up of launch games this may not be that problematic. I'm not saying they should do it but let's say they profit after $400, for every million sold that $100 million pocketed. They would also have a lot of give if everything went sour and they needed to cut the price to intrigue consumers a $100 price cut would really make a big difference. Would it be a good business idea for Sony to do this (pretend you actually own the company and this came up for discussion). |
Unless they offered something new (not move but something truly new) it'd be too high a price point. I know people who bought a PS3 for the bluray player alone. Without that behind them, it'd have to focus on the games once again. Whether they could get away with a $500 price point is purely to do now with the quality of the gaming to be found on the console.
