Looks like it's Nintendo's on their own once again, but unfortunately, WiiU isn't the "next big thing" as the Wii was, it's innovative, yes, but the level of hype the Wii had before launch was tremedoulsy bigger than anything that had been released before in the Video Game industry. WiiU's launch wasn't even an important event, not many were crazy over it and people aren't showing the will to buy it, more so because the pricepoint is big and doesn't justify the amount of software available.

Nintendo had all against them when facing the Wii -> Wii U transition, and even though it's too early to tell, we can see that the Wii U is no means a Wii-like kind of phenomena. Devs will not be willing to invest on it as they must be now shifting resources to the next generation of hardware (by next gen I mean graphical and processing capabilities) and even if it is a mistake because of the higher costs, devs are forced to bet on the successors of the 360 and the PS3, sales just spoke for themselves in the current gen and Wii U will simply get a small amount of the end of gen games that will launch for the HD machines, and not the biggest ones.

Nintendo will need to carry the console on their own and once again the cycle will be repeated. It's a Wii scenario once again where only Nintendo games will sell and 3rd parties will moan about low sales and abandon support on the second year at the latest. I think this time everyone will lose, not just Nintendo.

Everyone won't lose out though. The devs are just waiting for the next xbox/ps to develop for as they realise that most owners of a Wii U will already have a PS3 or Xbox. Therefore, why go to the expense of porting the game over to a new, akward platform when you won't increase your sales by any significant amount and will probably lose money? I have a feeling that there will be more and more announcements of this kind to come and it'll leave a lot of Wii U owners bitter and dissapointed.
