Sony needs to profit on the machine itself. I really don't understand the point in selling a machine for a loss to make it up with sales from games/online marketplaces. Profiting on both fronts sounds more appealing to me.
I would say $399.99 is pretty much the max they should be aiming to sell at launch for. Anything higher is really asking to much. Though I would buy it, I don't want to see another PS3 launch.
