if thats the case why release new consoles at all? seeing as how they already have consoles on the market comparable to the wii u fitting that description?

Because the market has become stale, we're starting to see declining sales which will decrease further in the next few years, and the industry is driven by new gameplay experience which can (often) not be delivered by existing hardware.


and releasing consoles similar to ones already out will aleviate that issue?

if by new hardware you mean differences in terms of input or control or whatever, peripherals can be used

from your comment it seems to make no sense to release new consoles
