1.5 billion in advertising for windows 8 fails to do the trick

Windows 8 will do fine. Of course it will sells loads, but Windows 7 is still only 3 years old so I'd expect Windows 8 sales to jump around next year. Besides, why does Microsoft even need to advertise Windows 8? Sales will still be huge even with little promotion.
Also, why does Microsoft advertise Internet Explorer? I realize a lot less people are using it, but what's the point of advertising it so much? Its not like they make more profit when more people use it, right?
