Ofcourse, we also have many areas which, for the first time in the game really, aren't really on the path to the end of the game, but you can explore (the fortress is the best example). It set the benchmark for future areas, and whilst some may have improved on it a tad, it will always be the first and the most surprising (night time).

Night time in Satorl, don't even get me started haha. I just cleared the core a bit ago, haven't finished the game (or the remaining sidequests) yet. But I did enjoy the Nopon drug trade, haha.

Exile Fortress was definitely one of my favorite parts up to that point. The fact that there was a huge fortress full of enemies, with its own history, unique monsters, sidequests, that blew me away that early in the game. A lot of it has been overshadowed by now -- the visual spectacle maybe isn't as strong as the Distant Fingertip, the sidequests not as deep as Colony 6 Reconstruction, but it was my first brush with the scale of the game, and I won't forget it.
