Religion screws up that idea rather badly. Religion is designed to cause great suffering and make people evil, so the moment they are colonized they will claim their religious differences make colonization impossible and rebel and causing an iraq situation again...
I say we don't colonize, we just go in there, slaughter all the bad people that we don't like and put people we like in charge. Of course we don't tell anyone we're doing this because the hippies will have a problem with it saying it works too well and not enough money is being spent and too little bloodshed is going on. This is what assassins are for.
Of course with all the trouble caused by the people in power being thrown out, a lot of problems will arise. Thats when we find people we like we should give them lots of guns to kill the resisters and tell them how to run the nation otherwise we kill them and start over.
Problem solved.
