I think you over simplify. I also think you are missing the point that it is becoming a live issue. Austerity measure have made it an issue. If a man struggling to pay his bills pays more tax than Starbucks then there is a problem somewhere. |
That man should be getting back all taxes he payed into the government come tax season. I have done taxes a few seasons and most people get money back from the government. The only people paying taxes are people making a very good amount, or people who own small businesses. Now small business people, they get screwed. if there is one thing that would scare anybody from ever wanting to open say a resturant it would be to work on a small business person taxes, or even look at them.
I saw an article the other day stating that some company that paid so little in taxes and had such profits only had 44 job opening available at the moment. They talked like it was a bad thing. Let me ask them a question. If that company instead of paying only 3% tax instead paid the full tax rate of 35% and whatever state tax rate is, how many jobs do you think they would have had available? Hell I bet they would be the opposite spectrum and be laying off people. So you would have 44+ less jobs that this company has created or has. Now, will the government have made a NEW job for every single employee that got laid off from this company PLUS the 44 possible employees from just the amount of taxes that they recieved from this company? no way.
So sorry if I find this arguing over a company not paying enough in corporate tax to be stupid. I don't believe there should be a corporate tax in the first place. Lets say we remove tax on corporations. There are 27+ million small business in the U.S. Lets say removing tax allows half of those companies to hire just ONE new employee. Thats 13+ million jobs created. What has Obama bragged about, creating some 5 million, so lets give him benefit and say he has created those due to his stimulus package. That number would only require approximately 1 in 5 small busniess to hire a new employee. Now considering that 60-80% of all new jobs created in this country are attributed to small businesses, I think 1 in 5 is a pretty safe guarantee and actually on the conservative side. Obama's huge stimulus package, which cost 800 billion dollars. is roughly 33% of the total reveneue the govenment brought in (apx 2.5 triilion). Corporate tax is roughly 9% of the government's total revenue, which is 225 billion. So the government needed 800 billion dollars to do what the private sector could achieve job wise with only 225 billion.
Now these numbers are for small business only and is ignoring large business, which should also be able to hire a few more people. Thus the numbers should skew in the private sectors favor even more. Then look at the fact that I used a super conservative 1/5 ratio in terms of business's who would hire a new employee, when it should be higher than that. This is not even looking at the potential for less layoffs, firing, downsizing, business going under, ect.
Now we all know the government wants as much money as possible correct. What was the whole point of the stimulus package? It was to create jobs correct? The government had to spend 800 billion dollars of their money to try and create jobs. If they removed corporate tax they would have had 225 less revenue, BUT they would have not had to spend 800 billion dollars. Thus they would actually have "gained" 575 billion dollars, by taking in less money. Now if you assume more than 1 in 5 business hired a new employee, then that means the private sector created more jobs thant 5 million. Meaning every one of those extra workers over 5 million is one more person the government is getting income tax from, thus again giving the government more revenue.
I don't want to get into a political discussion at all. You can think everything I wrote is pure garbage or not. It doesn't matter to me. I just wanted to post to show what my viewpoint is. Just so you know where I'm coming from and why I might post what I did earlier. Politics and Religion are things that IMO should never be argued about. They are lost causes. Each person can say their point of view or their beliefs, but beyond that your just gonna start hating one another if you try and convince or change anothers beliefs. Sadly now adays politics is more of a religion than religion is. People will think a democrat or republican deserves to go to hell more than a murderer. A murderer can find jesus or change his ways, but ones political view is damning for all eternity. So much hate in our country.
