Tablets (and any multi-purpose piece of electronics) hold more value for mass consumer compared against more or less dedicated game consoles, which are more likely to be exluded from family budget if there're constrains. Since I do not expect people to spend more on gaming (adjusted for inflation), chances are next generation indeed might have problems selling at all, unless it's cheap or will immensely raise its value for consumer in some way. |
tablets hold more value... true, but some guys did a survey and kids want ipads more than anything, and its not to set a route home in the maps application. its for games. parents do buy them, and justify the cost because of the "multi-purpose" nature of tablets, but that is also valid for consoles, they are not just a game consoles anymore.
the expensive consoles of this gen sold 140 millions against the half price leader sitting at 98 millions, gamers are serious about this hobby. the 399 PS4/xbox3 will do fine... i think they will be 449 or 499 and still do just fine. the majority of whining gamers about expensive consoles are the ones that had them as gift as young children and has now to pay them with their own money. Consoles were always a costly piece of entertainment.
