Tablets (and any multi-purpose piece of electronics) hold more value for mass consumer compared against more or less dedicated game consoles, which are more likely to be exluded from family budget if there're constrains.
Since I do not expect people to spend more on gaming (adjusted for inflation), chances are next generation indeed might have problems selling at all, unless it's cheap or will immensely raise its value for consumer in some way.
