Okay, real talk, everybody? The 3DS has the best version of Tetris. So it wins by default. Game over, man. The 3DS costs about the same as the Game Boy at launch (inflation adjusted, maybe around $10 (that is USD) more). The main problem with the 3DS is that it does not come with Tetris, so you'll have to pay an extra $5 4 (which would be $2.80 2.24 in 1989 money). While the Game Boy had a longer battery life, the 3DS has a backlit screen and you won't have to keep track of your Tetris cartridge.
So in conclusion:
Game Boy:
- Comes with Tetris
- Better battery life
3DS:
- Backlit screen
- No cartridge to keep up with
Honestly, it is a toss up, you might want to consider time traveling back to 1989 and buying a Game Boy new.
