Does he enjoy gaming on his computer? If that's the case, and his computer is powerful enough to play the latest and greatest games, I would recommend PS3. Many -- though obviously not all -- great Xbox titles are available on PC or on PS3.

If he doesn't play on PC, then it's pretty much a dead heat.

I think you have your answer then.

He'll miss out on Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Forza, Crackdown, and many others -- which is regrettable -- but he'll still be able to play Mass Effect, The Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, BioShock, Battlefield, Left 4 Dead, etc. Plus all the PS3 exclusives and all the PS1 classics on PSN.
